Who can become a member?
Membership in the AAEVT is available to all veterinary technicians, assistants, support staff and those employed or seeking employment in the veterinary health care industry worldwide.
Student membership is offered to any person enrolled in an AVMA/CVMA-accredited veterinary technology program.
AAEVT Annual Convention
Held in conjunction with the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), the AAEVT Annual Convention offers a wide variety of scientific and practice management lectures, social events and wet labs to meet the needs of all equine technicians with various levels of experience and support staff. The AAEVT registration also allows attendees to attend AAEP lectures, social events and the trade show.
Educational Programs through Partnerships
Veterinary associations, including the Northeast Association of Equine Practitioners (NEAEP), work together with the AAEVT to provide lectures, wet labs and social events geared toward the equine veterinary technician and staff. Additionally, AAEVT works closely with other groups, including the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and Wild West, to organize equine sessions and speakers for their annual meetings. As a result, AAEVT members receive special pricing for these events.
Regional Meetings
The AAEVT, in partnership with sponsors, hosts several one-day meetings at university clinics and practices around the country. Held in areas not served by the larger meetings, these smaller events allow for more one-on-one instruction and may either be on a very specific topic – like anesthesia or imaging – or more general.
Educational Scholarships
The Association assists several members each year in meeting their educational goals (on-line programs, meeting attendance or veterinary technology program) through the Anne Bailey and Milissa Finnegan Scholarship Funds.
Purina Veterinary Conference
The Annual Purina Veterinary Conference brings together over 100 equine veterinary technicians and assistants for a weekend of education complimentary to AAEVT members. This program, held in October, is by invitation only, and attendees must be current AAEVT members.
AAEVT ACT Online Certification Program
This online program provides basic to advanced education on the core competencies for students, equine veterinary assistants or veterinary technicians. Coursework is self-paced. Along with online courses, participants must show proficiency in a list of clinic skills, and they must attend an AAEVT-sanctioned continuing education event, which includes a wet lab and evaluation of horsemanship skills. The entire program can be completed within approximately six months, and those who receive their certificates of completion are recognized as AAEVT Certified Equine Veterinary Technicians/Assistants (“AEVT” or “AEVA”) depending on their current status.
