Featured Speakers

Nathan Slovis

DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, CHT

Internal Medicine / HEMI

Dr. Slovis is originally from Annapolis, Maryland. As a young child, he was involved in the United States Pony Club. He rode for Radford University’s equestrian team, has ridden dressage, three-day eventing and galloped racehorses. His interest in veterinary medicine exposed his love for helping animals that cannot speak. He enjoys figuring out an animal’s medical issue from the clues they give during physical exams and diagnostic blood work. Dr. Slovis’ professional interests include infectious disease and neonatology. However, his favorite memory of being a vet involves equine technical rescue. He was trained at University of California Davis for disaster preparedness. His training there has helped him be prepared for disasters he has seen during trailer accidents. He has been able to save many horses that would have otherwise been euthanized due to injuries sustained during the accident while trying to extricate them from the demolished trailer. He has published over sixty manuscripts regarding equine medicine in both peer reviewed national and international journals. Outside of work, Dr. Slovis enjoys spending time with his wife, watching his kids play lacrosse and hockey, and trap shooting. He loves the fall weather and hopes to go on an African Horseback Safari with his family one day!

Nimet Browne

DVM, MPH, DACVIM

Internal Medicine / HEMI

Dr. Browne is originally from Istanbul, Turkey. She was an avid horseback rider growing up and thought their veterinarian had the coolest job in the world. She was around five years old when she knew she didn’t want to become anything else when she grew up. Her professional interests include neonatology, sport horse medicine, gastroenterology and public health. Her favorite veterinary memories include seeing the sickest neonates turn into beautiful athletes. It still takes her breath away every time. Outside of work, Dr. Browne enjoys horseback riding, trying to keep her house plants alive, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Her bucket list items include adventures such as hiking the Dolomites in Italy, Everest Base Camp, sailing around the Mediterranean, and hiking Machu Picchu.
