Training with Instinct & Talent
Sunday, Dec 8
Jena Antonucci's passion for horses began at age three, leading her through a journey that included retraining retired Thoroughbreds and working with Padua Stables in D. Wayne Lukas's training program. Her dedication to the equine world eventually led her to work as an equine veterinary assistant, providing her with a deep understanding of horse health and best practices.
In 2008, Jena founded Bella Inizio Farm, focusing on reproductive work, young horses, and racehorse rehabilitation. Her career took a significant turn when she achieved her first win in public training at Tampa Bay Downs in 2010. Notably, in 2023, Jena made history by becoming the first female trainer to win a Triple Crown race with Arcangelo, who also secured the Travers Stakes and was named Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse.
Jena's contributions to Thoroughbred racing were recognized with the 2023 Big Sport of Turfdom Award. In 2024, she was elected to the board of the New York Thoroughbred Horseman’s Association (NYTHA), reflecting her commitment to the industry.
Additionally, in July 2022, Jena and Katie Miranda launched horseOlogy, a minority and women-owned thoroughbred training and ownership organization. horseOlogy also includes horseOlogy Encore, a non-profit established to support retiring horses with new careers or permanent homes.
