KY Techs: 8 CE credits for 3rd Steve Cauthen Farrier/Veterinary/Researcher Seminar

Dear Kentucky Farriers, Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians Researchers and all interested in the Horse.

First, our regards to each and all of the above and best wishes for the New Year, and attached is the essentially final draft of the program for The Third Steve Cauthen Farrier / Veterinary / Researcher Seminar.

As above, Hans Albrecht and I, Thomas Tobin, are again honored to be presenting The Third Tex Cauthen Seminar Sunday, January 20th, 2019 9:00 a.m. − 5:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Maxwell H Gluck Equine Research Center.

The title is OPTIMIZING FARRIER / VETERINARIAN / RESEARCHER INTERACTIONS, location The Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center Auditorium.

The focus of the Seminar has evolved to include potential blood biomarkers and related markers of joint/hoof related pathology, with the overall goal of identifying markers of potential problems and reducing musculoskeletal injury rates.

Dr. Horohov, Chairman of the Department of Veterinary Science and Director of the Maxwell H.  Gluck Equine Research Center will open the seminar by welcoming the speakers and guests to the Gluck Equine Research Center, and the program will be opened by two brief presentations, the first by Mr. Sandy Hawley, Hall of Fame Jockey, outlining the risks that Jockeys take, followed by an overview of recent novel technological approaches relating to farriery by Dr. Robert Holland.

The lead scientific presentation will be by Dr David Horohov, on “Blood Biomarkers of Horses at Risk of Musculoskeletal Injury”, and overall the program is focusing on events in the hoof, with presentations on navicular bone damage and navicular disease by Mr. Mike Savoldi and Dr. Laura Kennedy of the UK Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

Additionally, we are honored to have Dr. Raul Bras presenting on practical approaches to navicular disease and tenotomy and Dr. Simon John Curtis from Newmarket England is joining us again, this year his presentation will be on biomechanics and joint pathology as it relates to hoof mechanics, followed by two presentations on hoof mechanics and pathology from Mr.  Rick Snead and Mr. Steve Stanley.

The program will then close with a round table discussion of the days presentations chaired by Dr. Rob Holland, looking to finish at about 4:40 PM.
