Pentobarbital back orders and potential alternatives
The U.S. is currently experiencing a shortage of pentobarbital, the preferred drug for euthanasia of companion animals. While avenues of resolution are being explored, alternative drugs may need to be considered during short-term back orders. The updated AAEP Euthanasia Guidelines list several euthanasia technique alternatives to pentobarbital that are deemed acceptable by properly trained personnel.
